Vélomoteur P55 TC 1952 – 125cc
Since available workshop space is slowly becoming an issue and having seen some vintage Peugeot mopeds and motorcycles at recent vide-greniers, in 2023 the idea grew that it seemed like an option to get one just for the fun of looking at it.
Spotting one soon after at a Belgian online sales platform, proved the start of a new adventure. During a first visit it looked nice enough for display “Dans son jus” and it did even fire up, so I went again with an ambulance to pick it up.
For sure looking beautiful, after some weeks I was thinking that it would be nice to try to get it on the road again, but looking at my drivers lisence, the motorcycle check boxes were not ticked at all, so I started taking lessons and passed all 3 exams in one go …… but just barely……
And after that, on to the RDW/MOT for import/registration and Dutch license plates. I first spent a lot of time at second hand fairs to find a missing spoke and did some other minor repairs I thought would increase the chances of passing the MOT the first time. But……. to my surprise the guy only took some measurements and engraved a compulsory chassis number. No tests were needed since it came with valid Belgium registration. Long live the EU !
Then, since the engine did not want to run idle, I spent A LOT of time finding someone knowledgable who could and wanted to have a closer look within a reasonable time span. Such mechanics are definitely a dying breed. Also, finding the proper replacement parts after diagnosis proved a journey by itself. Some parts even had to be remade from scratch. The mechanic did a fantastic job and the engine and gearbox are now doing their thing !
